About the book: year / The author was born in Ireland in the family of an Irish pastor, Reverend Thomas Myne Reid Sr. and is his full namesake. He was educated in Belfast and in 1840 left for the USA in search of adventure. As a journalist he participated in the Mexican War of 1846-1848. Thomas Main (correctly Main) Reed is a prominent representative of adventure literature for youth and enthusiastic youth. His novels are classics of the genre and served as an example and inspiration for G.R. Harggard, R.L. Stevenson and many other authors. Among them was Jack London, who read the novels of M. Read. The most widely read country for this outstanding author, oddly enough, is Russia, which not only translated and published Mine Reed’s novels, but also filmed some of them. The great value of the author’s works lies in the knowledge of the area and the nature of the described events, peoples, their customs, history, geography and the relationships of various representatives of the characters in the works. The proposed works were rarely published in the USSR, and even now in other countries, so their selection is a great addition to the author’s already known novels, included in Detgiz’s wonderful six-volume set from 1956.
