S. Vorontsov (1782–1856). The personality of this man causes the most controversial assessments by historians and Pushkin researchers. The first, recognizing his talent as a commander and wise ruler, reproach him for his commitment to the monarchy and call him an obsequious courtier. The latter (at least most of them) ignore his services to the Fatherland and see in him only the enemy of the great poet. Talking about the life path of Vorontsov, about his military exploits and deeds for the glory of Russia, the author of the book refutes the widespread and distorted idea of ​​him as a calculating nobleman and persecutor of Pushkin.
