About the book: 1973 / In this issue of the "Library of Travel and Adventures" we offer readers historical stories by Perm writers Andrey Romashov and Alexey Domnin. Tale A Romashova “Forest Riders” tells about ancient events in the history of the Kama region. A thousand years ago, the great river Kama also carried its waters among the mighty harsh forests. But other people lived on its banks - the distant ancestors of modern Mansi and Hungarians. Continuous raids of enemies forced the tribe of forest horsemen to leave their homeland. They left, but did not submit to their enemies. The second story - “Kondratiy Rus” - tells about the first Russian settlers in the Kama region. They lived in their new homeland, not knowing the language and customs of their neighbors - the indigenous inhabitants of the harsh forest region. And yet, working people always found a common language, together, helping each other, they struggled with difficulties. The basis of A. Domnin’s story “The Campaign to Ugra” was the story of the Novgorod Chronicle about one of the first campaigns of the Novgorodians to the Urals “for silver and sable” in 1193. Legends were told about the fabulous riches of the Urals in the East and West. There, they say, squirrels fall from the sky like rain and sables spread like a black snowstorm, there at the feet of flat-faced Ugra idols lie mountains of silver of the famous Khorasan coinage.
