About the book: 2016 / "Silence" is a story by Georgy Ivanovich Chulkov (1879–1939), poet, prose writer, publicist of the Silver Age of Russian literature. His active work occurred during the heyday of symbolism, a poetic movement built on allegories. Chulkov was a well-known person in Symbolist circles and had a close acquaintance with A. S. Blok. The fruit of his philosophical thought is the theory of “mystical anarchism” about the internal freedom of the individual from any form of control. The artist Yeniseev and his new friend Luganov live in a provincial town on the Volga. Life here is slow and a little boring. While engaged in church painting, Yeniseev meets Luganov’s daughters, Tatyana and Antonina. Brave, desperate Tatyana falls in love with the artist and comes to him on secret dates. However, Yeniseev is attracted by the mysterious, inaccessible nun Tonya.... During his life, G. Chulkov created many unique works. Among them are the novel “Blizzard”, mystical short stories “Voice from the Grave”, “The Sea Princess”, the autobiographical cycle “Years of Wandering”, which contains essays on various topics - “Crisis of Decadence”, “New Path”, “Torches”, “Questions” life”, biographical stories about contemporaries (“L. N. Andreev”, “V. Ya. Bryusov”, “Alexander Blok”, “Fedor Sologub”, “M. N. Ermolova”»).
