About the book: 2008 / Georgy Georgievich Demidov (1908–1987) was born in St. Petersburg. Talented and hardworking, he went from a worker to a theoretical physicist, a student of Landau. In February 1938, Demidov was arrested and spent 14 years in Kolyma. He later said that while still in the camp he vowed to survive at all costs in order to describe this hell. He kept his word. In August 1980, searches were carried out at all addresses where typewritten copies of his works were kept, and all manuscripts were confiscated. At the same time, the garden house where the originals were kept burned down. On February 19, 1987, after watching the film “Repentance,” Georgy Demidov died. In 1988, with the assistance of the Secretary of the Central Committee, Alexander Nikolaevich Yakovlev, the archive was returned to the writer’s daughter. Some stories were published in periodicals in Russia and abroad; in France they were published as a separate publication translated into French. “Wonderful Planet” is Demidov’s first book in Russian. “Return” released it on the occasion of the writer’s centenary.
