In the first part of the book, the author polemicizes in absentia with the author of the classic work “Democracy in America,” Alexis de Tocqueville. In the second, he tells the story of the democratization of Russia, drawing portraits of the participants in this process, many of whom - from Gorbachev to Nemtsov - Bakov knew personally.
