About the book: 1989 / “King Shaul” is a novel about the first Hebrew king. It is based on a combination of the chronicles of the Tanakh ("Old Testament") and the discoveries of modern historians and archaeologists: All the characters in the book are taken from the Bible, and the plot develops in strict accordance with the Book of Judges. This technique: the abundant use of the Tanakh in combination with ethnographic and historical material makes reading the book extremely entertaining. “King Shaul” is a novel about a warrior king and also, like all historical publications by D. Malkin, it is about the life of Jews at home. The book includes stories about the customs, religion and history of the ancient Jewish tribes and their neighbors along the so-called “Blessed Rainbow” (“Gracious Crescent”).
