About the book: 1948 / John Addison, one of the owners of the largest department store on Broadway, decided to give a girl who was voting on the outskirts of the highway a lift to the city. On the way, a young maiden with an angelic face told with sweet spontaneity that she had run away from home in a small, boring town and was heading to New York to start a new life there. In a fit of paternal feelings (at least Mr. Addison claims that it was paternal), he decided to help the simple-minded provincial girl: he placed her in a hotel and promised to take her to work. And when that same evening she ended up in the police on suspicion of vagrancy, he turned to Mason with a request to rescue the girl - it is obvious that she was simply confused, finding herself on the streets of a big city. Mr. Addison could have continued to revel in his nobility if this a minor event did not mark the beginning of a series of major troubles. And Perry Mason had to make a lot of efforts to get his client’s life back on track.
