About the book: 1982 / The book “Forever, to the end” (the story of Andrei Bubnov), published in the series “Fiery Revolutionaries” in 1978, Valentin Erashov made his debut in fiction and non-fiction literature. Before that, he, a historian by training, a former Komsomol and party worker, was known as the author of the novel “We Didn’t Have Time to Go to the Front,” a one-volume set of selected prose “Fighters, My Comrades,” the stories “The Seventy-Ninth Element,” “Comrade Officers,” “The Man in the Tunic” and others, as well as numerous collections of stories, including those translated into the languages of the peoples of the USSR and in socialist countries. “Overcoming” is an artistic and documentary story about V. A. Shelgunov (1867–1939), a career worker, one of V. I. Lenin’s closest associates in the St. Petersburg “Union of Struggle for the Liberation of the Working Class,” a talented genius, a man of tragic fate ( he lost his sight completely in 1905). Being blind, until the last day of his life he continued active work in the Bolshevik Party, of which he was a member from the time of its formation..
