About the book: 1868 / The work covers the history of the Czech Republic from ancient times to the introduction of the constitution by Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1860. It should be noted that the book was published in 1865, Tomek thus became the first Czech scientist to turn to the study of the contemporary period. In this work, the author primarily examines the events of political history. Despite the fact that he was an apologist for absolutism and the Catholic Church, Tomek pays great attention to the analysis of the Hussite wars of the 15th century. The peculiarity of the author’s approach is the wealth of factual material and the use of a large number of little-known sources.
