About the book: year / The unfinished novel "Flea Market", which Galich himself called a "rogue novel", was written in exile, in 1976 - 1977. The first part was published in the magazine “Time and We” (Nos. 24-25. 1977-1978). The fate of the second part is unknown. In the image of the main character Semyon Yanovich Taratuta - an Odessa intellectual - it is easy to notice the features of the author himself, and in his statements - the author’s thoughts, so it would be fairer to say that this hero is portrayed with self-irony. One of the episodes echoes what happened in Galich’s life: before leaving, he had to pay an impressive amount for his cooperative apartment in the writer’s building, but when the authorities called him “on the carpet” on June 17, 1974 and presented an ultimatum “emigration - camp”, then they themselves paid the required amount for it, only so that Galich would leave the country as quickly as possible.
