About the book: year / Voivode Alexey Shein received the title of Generalissimo twenty years before this title was formally introduced into army circulation with the adoption of the Military Regulations of Peter I in 1716. This puts him on a par with the “generalissimos of the amusing troops” Fyodor Romodanovsky and Ivan Buturlin, who received their high titles in 1694. But it was the 44-year-old boyar Alexei Shein who was the first of the Russian generalissimos to become the owner of this title for military merit and retained it until his death.
