The novel highlights the significant historical events of the reign of the second tsar from the Romanov dynasty, Alexei Mikhailovich the Quiet, from the discovery of the relics of St. Sava of Storozhevsky and the first “Smolensk challenge” to royal Poland, to his premature death at only 46 years old. A special place in the novel is occupied by the challenges of the Quiet Tsar in the internal policy of the state in its relations with its closest subjects: favorites Morozov, Matveev, diplomats and governors, which allowed the tsar to avoid plunging into the abyss of a new Time of Troubles with failures in domestic and foreign policy and the still terrifying church schism.
