Dozens of characters, each with their own destiny, inhabit the space of the novel, forming a single mystical family. The novel takes place in the present day, but the roots of events go back to the distant past. And the author takes us first to Moscow during the time of Ivan the Terrible, then to the schismatic monasteries, then to the KGB dungeons, raises the esoteric background of Russian history of the 20th century, and we see with horror how the politicking Lyarva is trying to establish her dominance, how “foreign creatures” penetrate our world to collect True Blood, organize coups and “resurrect people according to science,” as the servants of Sophia counteract them. The novel cannot be summarized in a few words. But even without this it is clear that before us is, perhaps, one of the most significant works of the turn of the millennium.
