About the book: 2016 / The book is dedicated to the little-studied issue of mass desertion of Red Army soldiers and evasion of conscription into the Red Army in 1918–1921 For the first time in Russian historiography, it comprehensively examines the causes of the phenomenon and the mechanisms to combat it, the organization and functioning of commissions to combat desertion, and aspects of the daily existence of deserters. The Red Army “runners” were an interesting social phenomenon that influenced both the course of the war and the daily life of the city and village. Mass desertion was a common problem for all belligerents. It was a certain reaction of the population to a global tragedy, one of the survival strategies, “self-dealing” in the literal sense of the word. The publishing layout of the book is saved in PDF A4 format.
