How We Take Back the Internet is a collection of essays written during the COVID-19 pandemic by Dutch media theorist Geert Lovink, in which he continues to explore the takeover of the Internet by giant platforms and how this affects activism, the politics of emotion, art, finance and the everyday. During the lockdown, most of us had to finally surrender to digital platforms, which made the breakthrough to new forms of collaboration and self-organization even more difficult – and even more urgent. However, as in previous works, Lovink does not limit himself to critical diagnostics, but tries to update, through pressing questions and new concepts, the theory and practice of media activism with an eye to a different, collective future.
