About the book: 1952 / “Discourse on Voluntary Slavery” by Etienne La Boesie is one of the remarkable monuments of French journalism of the 16th century. The protest against autocracy, which permeates every line of it, the bright literary form, the peculiar beauty of its extensive periods built in the ancient style - all this makes the treatise of the early deceased French humanist one of the outstanding works of world political literature. The first complete Russian translation of the socio-political treatise of the French thinker and the poet Etienne de La Boesie (1530-1563). Excerpts from the treatise were published in his translation by L.N. Tolstoy in “The Reading Circle” (1906) and in the brochure “Patriotism and Government” (1906). Translation and comments by F.A. Kogan-Bernstein. The publication contains illustrations.
