And then his program also included talking - in general, there was no chance of leaving the house before midnight, and later he himself wouldn’t let her out: “Where are you going, it’s so late, decent girls go to bed at this time.” I wonder why he doesn’t care if she leaves the house at nine in the evening and returns in the morning, but if she gets ready to go out closer to midnight - and that’s it, the end of the world? But there was nowhere to go, I had to stay for dinner - nothing particularly good, mortal melancholy, as always. Well, maybe a little better than usual. And then the very conversation took place, for the sake of which, as Jane now understood, everything was started. And for which her father was quite polite and nice to her at dinner.
