About the book: 2016 / The monograph is dedicated to life and work in 1794-1799. the leader of the French royalist movement - Louis-Stanislas-Xavier, Count of Provence, proclaimed king in 1795 under the name of Louis XVIII. The era of Thermidor and the Directory was a time in France of fatigue from the republic and nostalgia for the monarchy, the royalists continually won elections to the central authorities, the restoration of royal power seemed not only possible, but also inevitable. All these years, while in exile, Louis did everything to restore the monarchy and regain the throne of his ancestors. The study focuses on his projects and plans, surroundings and intrigues, the struggle for international recognition and the development of laws for the renewed French monarchy. Particular attention is paid to his leadership of the royalist movement, the successes and failures of the supporters of the restoration. The book is based on a wide range of French, English and Russian archival sources.
