About the book: 2021 / The word “intelligentsia” is a Russian Latinism, and the phenomenon itself has a pronounced Russian specificity. The intelligentsia in Russia was traditionally assessed according to the Hamburg count. She was adored, worshiped, criticized, humiliated and destroyed in every possible way. One thing is certain: the intelligentsia became the foundation of Russian culture of the New Age and a powerful international brand. But who is he – a Russian intellectual: a master of thoughts or an arrogant and out-of-touch “know-it-all”? Was the intelligentsia a unique Russian phenomenon? How did it relate and interact with the educated class of other European countries? By comparing the key concepts and ideas of this influential social environment, the author of the book creates a verbal portrait of it in the European interior. Denis Sdvizhkov – candidate of historical sciences, researcher at the German Historical Institute in Moscow, author of works on the history of Russia and Europe of the 18th – early 20th centuries.
