About the book: 1983 / Mitsos Alexandropoulos - famous Greek writer, participant in the anti-fascist Resistance, author of the novel-dilogy "Nights and Dawns" ("City" and “Mountains”), collections of stories (“To the Stars”, “Miracles Happen on Time”). He also owns a large series of works on the history of Russian culture, in particular a three-volume history of Russian literature, novels about Gorky and Chekhov. Mitsos Alexandropoulos’ two-volume novel “Bread and the Book” was awarded the State Literary Prize of Greece in 1981. The novel “Scenes from the Life of Maxim the Greek” belongs to the same series. It is dedicated to the Greek thinker, writer and scholar-translator, who played a significant role in the history of Russian culture in the 16th–17th centuries. For translations of Russian literature into Russian and its popularization in Greece, the USSR Writers' Union awarded Mitsos Alexandropoulos the International Literary Prize named after A. M. Gorky.
