The theft occurred at night, when there was no electricity in the entire city due to an accident. The thieves entered church through the window. According to legend, more than two hundred years ago, near the Assumption Church, a miraculous copy of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God appeared to the townspeople. In the twenties of the last century, during the closure of the churches, the image was taken out of the cathedral, and the icon took its place again only seventy years later."....
