About the book: 2012 / Alexey Slapovsky's plays are performed on the stages of many theaters around the world and, of course, in Russia (about 30 theaters). This dramaturgy balances on the verge of drama and tragicomedy; it is quite different from his own screenplays, where everything, as the author puts it, is “affectionate, gentle and comforting.” Slapovsky the playwright, not constrained by the need to be in a format, is free; to take the title of one of his plays, he is “Not like everyone else.” And these plays, which is important, are interesting to read, because Slapovsky’s fixed idea: to return drama to the status of a full-fledged literary form.
