About the book: 2023 / In the early 1960s, the rock group The Beatles gained wild popularity in Europe and America. The same period was marked by another important social trend - the rise of the second wave of feminism. Two global cultural phenomena had a direct influence on each other: the music of the Fab Four inspired representatives of their generation to self-determination, and in the biographies and works of the Beatles themselves, the female presence was always very significant. In her book, Christina Feldman-Barrett analyzes the personal and indirect (through music, television and other mediators) relationships that women of different generations have developed with this group. The author gives a voice to the band's fans - from the girls from Merseyside trying to get to The Beatles concert in the 1960s, to our contemporaries - and also turns to the stories of the wives, mothers and other women who surrounded the musicians. Thus, the researcher proposes to reconsider the traditional approach to the historiography of the Beatles and fit this cultural phenomenon into a broad socio-historical context associated with women's emancipation.
