In 1965, conscript sailor Oleg Tumanov, carrying out a KGB assignment, made a daring escape from the Soviet Union. For 20 years, he lived and worked in Munich, rising from a correspondent to a senior editor of the Russian service of Radio Liberty. During this period of time, he transferred to Moscow a huge amount of valuable information, from the description and results of the work of Section X (monitoring of negotiations of officers, units and formations of the Soviet Army stationed in Eastern Europe) to detailed details of the activities of American intelligence and counterintelligence officers. In the end, the CIA managed to get on the trail of the elusive "mole", but in 1986 Oleg Tumanov managed to return to the Soviet Union.
