About the book: 1997 / "The Life of an Ugly Woman" - autobiographical notes of Princess Ekaterina Alexandrovna Meshcherskaya, dating back to the period of her life in Moscow in the 20s. Fragments of memories of Ekaterina Alexandrovna’s early youth were published by the New World magazine in 1988 (“Labor Baptism”), in which she told the romantic story of the unequal marriage of her parents: 73-year-old Prince Alexander Vasilyevich Meshchersky, horsemaster of the Court, and a talented 25-year-old singer Ekaterina Prokofievna Podborskaya. In 1896, the Meshchersky couple had a son, Vyacheslav, who was baptized by Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich Romanov. When daughter Katya (Kitty) appeared in 1904, her father was no longer alive. She was baptized by Fr. John of Kronstadt. After the revolution, Princess Meshcherskaya lost everything... Her daughter Kitty by that time had managed to study for three years at the Moscow Noble Institute. A life full of hardships began... Ekaterina Aleksandrovna Meshcherskaya died in her ninety-first year of life in 1994. She was buried at the Vvedenskoye Cemetery in Moscow next to her mother and husband..
