MediaDB / «Strike under water" by Sigmund Perl: download fb2, read online
About the book: 1945 / Even in the First World War, the mine and torpedo became the most powerful weapons" in naval combat. Their attacks killed many more combat and transport ships than from naval artillery shells. In those years, only destroyers, minelayers and submarines were the main mining ships. And yet, underwater danger lurked for surface and submarine ships in the vastness of the Atlantic, Black, Baltic, White and North Seas. Hundreds of combat and merchant ships became victims of underwater strikes. The danger of an underwater attack directed from a submarine, like a leaden thundercloud, hung over all sea and ocean communications of the warring parties. In the Second World War, mines and torpedoes and their attacks played an even greater role. Torpedo boats and aircraft entered service as the main carriers of mine and torpedo weapons. The combat successes of the new torpedo bombers, especially airborne ones, turned out to be no less, and in many cases greater, than those of submarines. Submariners, in turn, learned to use their weapons better and more successfully. The mine and torpedo in the skillful hands of Soviet sailors turned out to be powerful weapons in the fight against the Nazi fleet.
