About the book: 2005 / In the book of the historian A.B. Shirokorada tells about the participation of the Danube military flotilla in the Great Patriotic War. The first Russian flotilla on the Danube was created in the 18th century for the war with Turkey. In January 1918, the flotilla acted against Romanian troops; in February of the same year, it retreated to Odessa, where it was captured by German troops in March. During the Great Patriotic War, the sailors of the flotilla, newly created in 1940, on small river lightly armed vessels heroically fought on the Danube, the Black Sea of ​​Azov, and participated in the Iasi-Kishinev and other operations. The book presents for the first time the tactical and technical characteristics of the ships of the Danube military flotilla.
