Vazem is one of the few Russian ballerinas of the 19th century who left memoirs from which one can imagine the development of pre-revolutionary ballet art in Russia, his successes and defeats. “Notes” by E. O. Vazem is valuable material on the history of St. Petersburg ballet. Of particular importance are the characteristics of numerous artists and choreographers conveyed on the pages of the book, an assessment of their work, a review of Russian criticism of the late 19th century, as well as notes about the ballet public and theater officials. The memoirs contain a number of significant information about Vazem herself and about the life of students at the Imperial Theater School in St. Petersburg in the 50s and 60s. XIX century.
