About the book: 2010 / The story below was first published under the pseudonym Jeffrey Cobb in 1950 in the famous Walt Willis fanzine "Slant", and then appeared in an American magazine "Other Worlds". It was subsequently included in Science Fiction Carnival in 1953, an anthology edited by Frederick Brown and Mac Reynolds, who called the work a parody of space opera. In our opinion, this indicates that this derogatory term was widespread, covering by the early 1950s the so-called science fantasy (which is now sometimes called planetary romance) in the tradition of the Martian novels of Edgar Rice Burroughs and the works of Leigh Brackett ( her classic science-fantasy "The Sword of Rhiannon" comes to mind. The main idea of Jackson's story is embodied in one of the comedic devices in the first Indiana Jones film. There is a biographical note.
