About the book: year / "The Pillar and Statement of Truth" is the central book of Florensky and, in many ways, the entire Russian religious revival. "The Pillar and Statement of Truth" is a brilliant attempt thematization of the basic truths of the Christian faith. Therefore, the form chosen by Florensky is fundamental - letters to a Friend. Only in experience, personal conversion, in a meeting situation is it possible to talk about God. "The Pillar and Ground of Truth" can be divided into two parts. The first depicts the situation of a person facing the absence of truth, the search for the mind to support itself. There is no solid truth, everything floats. Florensky depicts the hell of doubt, the mousetrap of the mind, eternal circling in the void. Only with a leap can the mind come to the Trinity - with a leap of crazy faith. If there is truth, then it is the Trinity. Perhaps this is the main achievement of the book: placing Trinitarian thinking at the basis of philosophy. Indeed, if philosophy wants to be Orthodox, then at its core it must have the inconceivable abyss of the Trinity (this, by the way, is true adherence to patristic theology). To describe such thinking, Florensky introduces the term “antinomy,” which is destined to play a decisive role in Christian philosophy. Antinomic thinking is thinking in contradiction, thinking that does not “remove” concreteness, reality in abstraction, firmly holding on to what is - inconceivable being. That. floral Christian philosophy: Trinity, antinomy, sin, Gehenna, Creation, Sophia, love, friendship, jealousy (as you can see, a peculiar selection). Rozanov rightly called “The Pillar and Ground of Truth” a “thick book.” One may not agree with the argumentation or the very thoughts of Florensky, but “The Pillar and Ground of Truth” cannot but amaze with the exceptional wealth of material (not to mention the literary perfection). Mathematics and linguistics, the liturgical riches of the Church and the writings of the Holy Fathers, philosophers - ancient and modern, artistic literature - this and much more were included in the fabric of Florensky’s “Pillar and Statement of Truth.” Florensky describes the plan of “The Pillar and Statement of Truth” as follows: “Living religious experience as the only legitimate way of knowing dogmas” - this is how I would like to express the general desire of my book, or, more precisely, of my sketches, written at different times and under different moods. Only relying on direct experience can one survey and appreciate the spiritual treasures of the Church. [...] What is churchliness? - This is new life, life in the Spirit. What is the criterion for the correctness of this life? - Beauty. Yes, there is a special spiritual beauty, and it, elusive to logical formulas, is at the same time the only true path to determining what is Orthodox and what is not. The connoisseurs of this beauty are spiritual elders, masters of “the art of art,” as holy men call asceticism. The spiritual elders, so to speak, “have become skilled” in recognizing the good quality of spiritual life. The taste is Orthodox, the Orthodox appearance is felt, but it is not subject to arithmetical calculation; Orthodoxy is shown, but not proven. That is why for anyone who wants to understand Orthodoxy, there is only one way - direct Orthodox experience." Here we present a version of Florensky's "Pillar and Ground of Truth" without additional 15-20 chapters. Source of electronic publication - Vekhi Library (http:/ /www.vehi.net/)
