About the book: 2015 / “A Thousand and One Nights of the Emergency Department” is a fascinating chronicle of the everyday life of a French hospital. The book was born from a blog where twenty-seven-year-old intern Baptiste Beaulieu kept a diary of hospital life since 2012. The blog quickly gained popularity, the number of visitors soon exceeded three million, and Beaulieu himself received the Alexandre Varnais Prize. The best French publishers began vying with each other to offer him to write a book based on the blog. The hero of the book, an intern in the emergency department, devotes every free minute to the patient, whom he nicknamed the Firebird. She does not have long to live, and she is waiting for her student son, who is stuck abroad due to the eruption of a volcano “with an unpronounceable name.” To help her hold on, a young intern tells her cases from medical practice - his own and those of his friends. Gradually other doctors and nurses join him, replacing him in the role of Scheherazade. From these stories, sometimes sad, sometimes funny, a whole world of “those who fall ill and those who put them on their feet” grows”.
