About the book: 2020 / The action takes place in a fantasy world. The time can be roughly dated to the 14th and 15th centuries in human chronology, the years when the world was overrun by mercenary brigades. The story is told from the perspective of the young captain of the condottiere brigade, Je Kano. At the crossroads, the son says goodbye to his father. The father is a general who goes beyond the Mountains, intending to bring an army from there to help. While waiting for his father's message, the son ends up in a small town, where he spends several weeks. But there will be no messenger - the general’s entire unit is missing. The guy has one gift - he can turn into a bird. After one flight, Kano ends up in a cemetery and discovers an entire block lined with the graves of young girls. After some time, he learns that this is the result of a battle between the local women's militia and a brigade of condottieri of a certain Ferd She Renner, who died here and was buried right there in the cemetery in a mass grave... Without waiting for his father, the guy pesters a cavalry banner that is moving to the front. This part’s symbol is the “Kano” rune. But soon the newly-minted commander is captured. During the first interrogation, he gives a false name - Je Kano. He is sent to the School, the purpose of which is to break characters and reforge prisoners into soldiers of another army. The conditions in this institution are difficult - most of the “students” die. Among other things, magic does not work in the School - an anti-magic drug is added to the food. Therefore, Kano cannot escape after turning into a bird. Jae learns that a girl is imprisoned in the School - who becomes his first and only love... The hunger strike returns magical abilities, and Kano flees. Decides to find the semi-mythical General Reiter, for whom his father once began as an adjutant. After road adventures, Kano finds the general. Lives with him, learning martial and magical wisdom. The general explains the strategic situation to young Je, predicting a new war in the spring. Jae tells the general his goal - to return to the School and free the prisoner.
