About the book: 2011 / The categories of the population most affected by military operations, not counting the actual dead and wounded in the war (the so-called “bloody losses”), were prisoners of war, on separated from their homeland for many years, and refugees from the frontline zone, forced to leave their homes. Deserters and repatriates completed the overall picture of disasters. For Russia, these categories numbered millions of people, and therefore it is impossible to ignore their tragic fate in 1914–1918, which foreshadowed the tragedies of World War II.
