  • MediaDB / «The last prophet and the first apostle. What do we know about John the Baptist? Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeev): download fb2, read online

About the book: 2019 / The book tells about St. John the Baptist. All four Gospels pay great attention to him as a prophet whose preaching immediately preceded that of the Savior. The Gospel of Mark begins with the story of John the Baptist. In Matthew, the story of the Baptist's sermon follows immediately after the story of the birth and childhood of Christ. Luke begins his Gospel with the birth of the Baptist and then sets out parallel biographies of John and Jesus. All three synoptics describe the baptism of Jesus by John in the Jordan as the event that began the public ministry of Christ. John the Baptist and his encounters with Jesus are also told in the Gospel of John. The author draws on both patristic interpretations of the Gospel and modern scientific literature. Written in accessible language, the book will be useful to a wide range of readers who study the Holy Scriptures. Publishing layout saved in PDF A4 format.
