About the book: 2016 / The collection includes three plays by Bernard Shaw. Among them, the most famous is “Pygmalion” (1912), on which many films were made and the legendary Broadway musical “My Fair Lady” was staged. The plot is based on an ancient Greek myth about how a sculptor tries to revive the beautiful statue he created. And the hero of Shaw's play tries to turn a simple flower girl into a sophisticated aristocrat in 6 months. “Pygmalion is a mockery of the blue-blooded fans... every play of mine was a stone that I threw at the windows of Victorian prosperity,” said Shaw. In 1977, a ballet film based on this play was staged with E. Maksimova and M. Liepa. “Pygmalion” is still being successfully shown in theaters all over the world. The publication also includes the play “Candida” (1895) - about the incomprehensible and mysterious, not amenable to rational explanation, why a woman can love a man; and “The Dark Lady of the Sonnets” (1910) – a unique dramatization of the hidden plot of Shakespeare’s sonnets.
