About the book: 2005 / Yoshiyuki Junnosuke (1924–1994) - a famous writer of the so-called “third wave” in Japanese literature, who received the Akutagawa Prize in 1955 for my first novel. The story “Before Sunset” (1978), one of the writer’s later books, like his other works, describes private life, detached from anything social, eroticism and sensuality, detached from feelings. The plot is built around the story of the relationship between a married forty-year-old man Sasa and a young girl Sugiko, who enters the world of adult eroticism, but insists on preserving her virginity. In the frankly written scenes of intimacy, unusual, almost unnatural conversations of these two strange lovers, one can feel the skill of a writer looking for other, new forms of dialogism and developing stylistic moves adequate to them.
