About the book: 2001 / Along with the end of World War II, the career of piston-engined combat aircraft came to an end. The first designs appeared that did not require a propeller to rise into the air. Jet aircraft developed on both sides of the front and everywhere great importance was attached to work on them, because they opened up completely new horizons for aviation. The development of some of these vehicles was so advanced that they managed to take part in the battles of the last months of the war. The most famous of these was the Messerschmitt Me 262 Schwalbe (Swallow), the Third Reich's last hope to overcome Allied air superiority. This plane, of course, did not change the outcome of the war, but it opened a completely new era in the history of aviation - the jet era.
