About the book: year / Donald Hamilton - American writer. Donald Hamilton was born in 1916 in the university town of Uppsala in central Sweden. At the age of eight, together with his parents, he found a second home overseas. Donald only learned to speak and write English in elementary school. Military service during the Second World War became an important milestone in his life: there he acquired professional and everyday experience, which later turned out to be an inexhaustible source of fascinating stories for him. After the war, Hamilton decided to try himself in the field of journalism and quickly acquired a quickness of pen, in which he was not inferior to the native Yankees - his fellow craftsmen. Many American writers went through the school of newspaper reporters. Soon the recent front-line soldier Hamilton was drawn to literature. In 1947, he released his first detective novel, Rendezvous with Darkness, after which he published a dozen more hard-boiled crime thrillers and action adventures. In 1960, being, as they say, a widely known author in narrow circles, he offered the Fossett publishing house the manuscript of the novel “Death of a Citizen,” which featured Matt Helm, a killer agent acting on instructions from some deeply secret structure under the American government. The publisher liked the novel so much that Hamilton received a tempting offer to create a series about the adventures of Matt Helm. Since then, for three decades, another thriller about the exploits of Matt Helm has appeared about once a year. Matt Helm is a typical, if not generic, spy thriller hero. He masterfully wields a .38-caliber five-shooter revolver and a short-bladed combat knife.
