About the book: 1971 / Remembering the past and, above all, the years of the Great Patriotic War, I was involuntarily transported mentally to Spain. After all, there Republican Spain, together with our volunteers, tried to stop the advance of fascism. It was there that the real danger of an imminent big war arose. The intervention in Spain was the first step towards war, and the Spanish people became the first victims of the fascist offensive in Europe. Whether Hitler would unleash new aggression depended on the outcome of the struggle in Spain. Less than six months separates the end of the tragedy in Catalonia and the defeat of the Spanish Republic from the world war. That is why I have always connected my thoughts about the Second World War with the Spanish Civil War. That's why I decided to write my memoirs about the fight against fascism in Spain, where I was first as a naval attaché, and then, during the war, became the chief naval adviser.
