About the book: year / Review - one of Dobrolyubov’s speeches against poetry hostile to the Nekrasov movement. In this regard, the critic characterizes the formulaic lyrics of the insignificant noble poet D.K. Lysander (1824–1894), his religious rhetoric and vague denunciations of “vice.” The political lyrics of V.V. Bazhanov were of an extremely “well-intentioned” nature. Not being able to characterize Bazhanov’s political lyrics in the review, Dobrolyubov draws attention to the frequent and characteristic contradiction of erotic and religious motives for this kind of literature. Bazhanov’s religious “edification” and Lysander’s liberal claims “to the title of public figure” are compromised in the review by comparison with the works of the mediocre and unknown graphomaniac Alexandrov.
