About the book: 1966 / ...Many front roads that lead to the west have been passed. Behind us are the Volga, the Kursk steppes, and the Bryansk forests. Already beyond the Dnieper, across Ukrainian soil, clearing it of the enemy, soldiers are marching. We meet them, the warriors of our famous infantry, on the pages of this book in a heavy night battle among the forest thicket in the late autumn of forty-three somewhere west of Kyiv and part on a sunny summer morning far beyond the borders of their native land, in the mountains of Transylvania, where they continue their victorious path. All three stories in the collection (“Banner”, “On the Korsun Field”, “Hello, Comrade!”) seem to continue one another, although each of them is an independent work, and the last two are united by common characters.
