The Prado is located in the capital of Spain, Madrid, and therefore has the largest collection of Spanish paintings in the world. The museum collection consists of three large parts: paintings that belonged to the Spanish kings; works created under the auspices of the church and later transferred to the state; works of art received as a gift or purchased by the museum.
