  • MediaDB / «Biography of Hunger" by Amelie Nothomb: download fb2, read online

About the book: 2007 / The novels "Biography of Hunger" and "Love Sabotage" are autobiographical, according to the author-character, the author-werewolf, playing with the reader, like cat and mouse. In “Love Sabotage” we see totalitarian China during the Gang of Four, where Amelie lived with her father, a major Belgian diplomat. In “The Biography of Hunger,” countries flash by as if on a movie screen: Japan, the USA, Bangladesh, Burma, Laos, Belgium, and again China. Amelie here is first a little girl, then a teenager, with all the “girl” experiences, love, resentment and passion for exotic things, people and languages. The political map of the 70s and 80s appears before the reader in full view, brightly colored and comically drawn in the spirit of a skillfully modeled – but not childish at all – perception of the unpredictable Amelie.
