About the book: 2005 / ÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷÷ ÷÷÷÷÷÷÷Fundamental work on the Crimean War. Using enormous archival and printed material, the author showed the complex tangle of international contradictions that had developed in Europe and Asia Minor by the middle of the 19th century. Providing evidence of the aggressive plans of the Western powers and Russia in the Middle East, the historian examined their economic positions in this area, noting the decisive divergence of interests, first of all, of England and Austria with the policies of Russia. Tarle's work explains in detail the behind-the-scenes diplomatic struggle between the warring parties, from which England and France emerged victorious. At the same time, the differences between these powers are shown. The author introduced a lot of new things into the description of military operations. Tarle also dwells on the significance of the war as a prologue to changes within Russia. However, an insufficiently deep analysis of the internal situation of Russia and European countries, the lack of a clear distinction between official Russia and people's Russia, and a certain ignorance of the connection between the front and the rear are the shortcomings of this generally outstanding historical work.
