About the book: 1971 / In the first months of the Great Patriotic War, the glory of the defenders of Hanko resounded throughout the country. The Nazis were already approaching Leningrad, and in their deep rear the garrison of this small naval base fought courageously. The sailors, infantrymen, and pilots of Red Gangut (as the Hanko Peninsula was previously called) did not give up a single inch of their territory to the enemy; moreover, with daring landings they knocked out the Nazis from several islands that were of great tactical importance. This brave garrison was headed by General S.I. Kabanov, an experienced artilleryman and veteran of the coastal defense of the Baltic Fleet. In his book, he talks about himself and his fighting friends, gives many previously unknown details about the battles for Hanko.
