About the book: 1966 / Boris Lapin is a well-known journalist and writer before the war, an expert on Asia and the Far East. In the twenties and thirties, he traveled almost the entire Asian part of our country, walked in the Pamirs, lived in the Far North, visited Alaska, Mongolia, Persia, Japan, Korea, and Turkey. He participated in marine, archaeological and geobotanical expeditions, was engaged in population censuses, and everywhere he observed the unique way of life of Asian peoples, the unique flavor of their lives, their national psychology. All this is discussed in The Pacific Diary and in the stories included in the book. “Feat” is dedicated to an extraordinary incident that happened to a Japanese pilot at a time when militaristic Japan invaded the Asian continent. B. Lapin wrote “Far Eastern Stories” together with Zakhar Khatsrevin, his friend and constant co-author, also a famous journalist in the pre-war years.
