About the book: 1962 / The culture of the people of Brazil - both poetic, musical, and visual - amazes with its brightness, colorfulness, and amazing originality. The spiritual characteristics of different nationalities have been preserved, live and exist in it. The uniqueness of the Brazilian national character and culture appears especially clearly and palpably in folk art, where three sources interact, feeding each other. The first source is fairy tales of European origin, brought by the Portuguese. In the Brazilian fairy tale we can meet Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella with her evil stepmother, a beautiful princess, and a prince in the guise of a monster. But as they were passed on from mouth to mouth, the tales changed. Our old acquaintances took on a new look, becoming real children of the tropics. The second source that feeds Brazilian folklore is the oral tradition of blacks. The tales told by the blacks and mulattoes of Bahia seem to be permeated with song and dance. And finally, the third source of Brazilian folklore, the most significant and original, is Indian tales and legends. The legends reflected the peculiarities of the way of life of Indian tribes. They talk about the origin of the world and various natural phenomena, try to explain the diversity of all living things. The published collection presents the most original, vibrant and interesting fairy tales and legends that have no similarities in the folklore of European countries.
