About the book: 2015 / The authors of the book analyzed the main factor in the fifty-year history of Lithuania: the policies of foreign powers in Lithuania, that is, their influence on the Lithuanian people, economy and culture, and also Lithuania's reaction to this policy. Some of the book's authors have different views on certain aspects of Lithuanian history, but in this book their views coincide to some extent. About 8-11 topics are presented relating to each period of the above history (Soviet occupation and annexation in 1940-1941; Nazi occupation in 1941-1944; Stalin's totalitarian regime in 1944-1953; de-Stalinization and Thaw in 1953-1964; Soviet modernization and period of stagnation in 1965-1987; revival of Lithuania and restoration of independence in 1987-1990). From 1940 to 1990, the main factors favoring independence were: the Catholic Church, which enjoyed some autonomy during the Soviet occupation; the diplomatic service of independent Lithuania, which continued to function in foreign countries; Lithuanian diaspora; Lithuanian-based organizations and resistance groups. The authors of the book analyzed the activities of these institutions and organizations, as well as their influence on the Lithuanian people.
