About the book: 1964 / The life of a forced labor children's colony during the Great Patriotic War opens before the reader. Due to the prevailing circumstances, minors were placed in the territory where adults were kept. These “special circumstances” made it possible for the author to show and reveal relationships in the so-called “underworld”, the wild and cruel “laws” of this world, its false romance - everything that has a detrimental and corrupting effect on the not yet formed psyche of a teenager. The author is not interested in types of crimes, but the characters of people, their complex destinies. The novel shows how an internal breakdown occurs, a complex process of cleansing from the adhering mud of thieves' romance, criminal morals, and immorality. Continuing and developing Makarenkov’s theme, Irina Nolle describes a completely different time and different living conditions for teenage delinquents. The social conditions that once gave rise to homelessness are a thing of the past. Now these are ordinary teenagers, girls and boys, whom someone once “passed by.” The central character of the novel is the head of the DTK, Captain Belonenko, one of those employees of state security agencies who have always remained faithful in their hearts and in practice. Lenin's ideas, the behests of Felix Dzerzhinsky, to whose memory the book is dedicated. The image of Belonenko attracts with inner conviction, firmness of ideological positions, moral purity in relations with people, honesty and integrity. The heroes of Irina Nolle’s novel follow the fabulous Blue Bird of happiness, but not in dreams and daydreams, but on the path of creative work, daring and search.
